Laurel Creek Falls & Watauga River Gorge

A local favorite, with a waterfall on one side of the road and rocky Watauga River Gorge access on the other.

Sink Mountain Boat Landing

A beautiful, easy spot to put boats, kayaks, or paddleboards into Watauga Lake, about 8.7 miles from Eagles Peak.

Watauga Point Recreation Area

Picnic tables, grills, a covered pavilion, and water access for kayaks and paddleboards. Shade trees, lake views, and a short gravel loop trail through the woods.

Rough Ridge & Beacon Heights Trails

Two short hikes off the Blue Ridge Parkway, each about 0.3 miles to the first long range lookout. Rough Ridge Trail and Beacon Heights Trail are close enough together to hike both in one day. Parking at each is small and both are popular, so we recommend going early.

Bass Lake & Moses Cone Manor

A gentle 0.9-mile loop around the lake with carriage-trail extensions to the manor, perfect for a morning walk or jog.

Julian Price Lake Park

Hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and picnic spots right off the Parkway near Blowing Rock.

Doe Mountain Recreation Area

More than 60 miles of trails across 8,600 acres, open to hiking, mountain biking, and off-highway vehicles. Bring your own or rent a side-by-side on site. The trails lead to the Kettlefoot Fire Tower, where the view opens 360 degrees over Watauga Lake and into three states.
